Most are condominium townhomes built into the base of towers or arranged around courtyards inside master-planned blocks such as Parkside Village near Square One, the Daniels blocks around the Civic Centre and the earlier phases south of Burnhamthorpe. They give you a front door at street level, two or three storeys of living space and sometimes a rooftop terrace, while sharing amenities and maintenance fees with the tower behind. Freehold townhouses are rare inside the core, so widen your search to the streets west of Confederation Parkway and toward Mavis Road if you want to hold your own title. Check whether the unit fronts a public street or an interior mews, how parking is assigned in the underground garage, and whether the fees cover the tower's pool and concierge that you may or may not use. Noise from Burnhamthorpe and Rathburn is worth a weekday and a weekend visit.
